Senior Staff Accountant – Commercial Real Estate
A growing commercial real estate organization is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to take ownership of complex accounting activities across multiple properties and entities. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who enjoys digging into financial data, identifying discrepancies, and being a key resource during month-end close.
You'll work closely with the Controller and property management teams and will have significant visibility into the organization's financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Own monthly close activities for assigned entities and properties
- Prepare complex journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
- Complete detailed balance sheet and bank reconciliations
- Analyze operating expenses and investigate budget variances
- Prepare financial statements and management reporting
- Maintain fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and intercompany schedules
- Review accounting activity for accuracy and compliance
- Partner with property management teams regarding financial questions
- Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, and financial reporting
- Recommend process improvements and accounting efficiencies
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members
Qualifications:
- 4–6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Real estate or property accounting experience is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, NetSuite, or similar systems preferred
- Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently with limited supervision
Compensation
