Controller
Robert Half is partnering with a well-established, family-owned real estate organization to identify a Controller for a key succession-planning opportunity. This position offers the chance to lead the accounting function for a stable and growing company with a long-tenured team, while helping modernize processes and prepare the organization for its next chapter of growth.
The company owns and manages approximately 25 properties and is seeking a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting responsibilities with process improvement, team leadership, and operational excellence. The current finance leader is planning for retirement and will provide extensive training and knowledge transfer to ensure a smooth transition.
Position Highlights
- Full-time, permanent Controller opportunity
- Compensation: $140,000-$150,000+ (flexible for the right candidate)
- Bonus eligibility
- Fully onsite with flexibility for occasional remote work as needed
- Monday-Friday schedule, generally 40-45 hours per week
- Long-term opportunity with potential progression into the top finance leadership role
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations for a multi-entity real estate portfolio
- Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and preparation of property financial statements
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities
- Supervise and develop a small accounting team
- Serve as the primary contact for annual audits and auditor relationships
- Ensure accuracy of the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and accounting modernization efforts
- Enhance AP workflows and reduce manual processes where appropriate

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with significant accounting experience
- Prior Controller experience or experience serving as the senior-most accounting leader within an organization
- Real estate or property management accounting experience required
- Strong multi-entity accounting background
- Experience managing accounting operations and supervising staff
- Demonstrated audit management experience
- Hands-on leadership style with a process improvement mindset
- QuickBooks experience
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA (active or inactive)
- Affordable housing accounting experience
- ERP implementation or system enhancement experience
- Budgeting and forecasting expertise
- Payroll experience, including exposure to iSolved
