In House Counsel

Compensation: $126 to $219 Yearly

We are looking for an experienced In House Counsel to support employment law matters for a growing manufacturing organization in Plymouth, Minnesota. This position will work closely with HR and business leadership to address employee relations concerns, manage legal exposure, and promote compliant practices across multiple jurisdictions. The role is well suited for an attorney who can combine sound legal judgment with practical guidance for complex workplace issues.

Responsibilities:
• Advise HR partners and company leaders on employment matters such as performance concerns, disciplinary actions, workplace accommodations, leave issues, and other sensitive personnel situations.
• Lead or supervise internal workplace investigations, ensuring findings are thoroughly documented, escalated appropriately, and evaluated for legal and business risk.
• Handle employment-related disputes from early-stage claims through litigation and agency matters, while helping determine effective response strategies.
• Oversee outside counsel by guiding case strategy, reviewing performance, and monitoring legal spend against budget expectations.
• Prepare risk-based recommendations on resolutions and settlements by weighing legal exposure, operational impact, and business objectives.
• Track changes in employment regulations at the federal, state, provincial, and local levels and translate those developments into compliant practices and policy updates.
• Identify recurring workplace risk patterns through reporting and analysis, then recommend preventive actions to strengthen employment compliance.
• Partner with HR and leadership on reorganizations, workforce reductions, and other organizational changes to support legally sound decision-making.
• Draft, revise, and maintain employment-related policies, procedures, templates, and training materials for managers and HR teams.
• Use matter management, e-billing, and other legal operations tools to improve oversight, reporting, and efficiency across employment matters.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of experience practicing employment law, including support for multi-state workplace issues.
• Strong command of employment litigation, administrative proceedings, and federal, state, and local employment law requirements.
• Demonstrated success conducting or advising on complex workplace investigations and other sensitive employee relations matters.
• Experience managing outside counsel, controlling legal budgets, and guiding dispute resolution strategy.
• Ability to evaluate legal risk, prioritize competing demands, and deliver practical advice aligned with business needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal matter management platforms.

Compensation

$126,000.00-$219,000.00 Yearly
