Staff Accountant

Kyle Clarke with Robert Half of Buffalo has partnered with a local client who is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing finance team in Buffalo, New York. In this role, you will support core accounting operations and work closely with the Financial Controller to maintain accurate records, deliver reliable reporting, and keep monthly and annual close activities on track. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting work with analysis, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

• Manage monthly and annual close tasks by preparing entries, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure deadlines are met.

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain complete and accurate financial records.

• Produce recurring financial reports and support variance analysis to highlight trends, risks, and unusual fluctuations.

• Monitor cash activity and assist with forecasting to help the organization plan effectively and maintain visibility into liquidity.

• Support corporate and sales tax activities, including gathering data, preparing schedules, and assisting with required filings.

• Contribute to cost accounting efforts by tracking expenses, analyzing cost data, and supporting operational decision-making.

• Partner with the Financial Controller and internal stakeholders to strengthen accounting procedures and improve reporting accuracy.

• Assist with year-end accounting deliverables and provide documentation needed for audits, compliance reviews, and financial reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant, general accountant, or similar role.
• Working knowledge of month-end close processes, journal entry preparation, and general ledger maintenance.
• Experience with account reconciliations and the ability to research and resolve accounting variances.
• Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and support for corporate tax return preparation.
• Exposure to cost accounting concepts and the ability to analyze financial data in a practical business context.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing timely and accurate work.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with finance leadership and cross-functional teams.

Compensation

$60,000.00-$70,000.00 Yearly
