Payroll Manager

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to support payroll operations for a large employee population within the insurance industry. This Contract position is based in Hartford, Connecticut, and will oversee accurate, compliant payroll processing across multiple states. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, deep knowledge of end-to-end payroll practices, and hands-on experience with high-volume payroll environments.

Responsibilities:
• Lead end-to-end payroll administration for a workforce of more than 500 employees, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Manage payroll activity across multiple states while maintaining compliance with applicable wage, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Review payroll data for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and oversee adjustments related to earnings, deductions, and taxes.
• Administer payroll operations using ADP Workforce Now and help optimize day-to-day system usage and reporting.
• Partner with HR, finance, and other internal teams to address payroll questions, support audits, and improve process efficiency.
• Ensure proper handling of employee records, payroll documentation, and reporting in alignment with company policies and legal standards.
• Monitor payroll deadlines and controls to reduce risk and maintain consistent service levels for employees and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll from data review through final processing and reconciliation.
• Strong background handling multi-state payroll with a solid understanding of related compliance obligations.
• Experience supporting payroll for employee populations exceeding 500 workers.
• Hands-on proficiency with ADP Workforce Now in a payroll-focused environment.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll practices, tax withholdings, garnishments, and benefit deductions.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate issues and implement accurate resolutions.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities to manage competing priorities in a contract assignment.

Compensation

$52.25-$60.50 Hourly
