Employment Counsel
A growing technology company in San Jose is seeking an Employment Law Attorney to join its in-house legal team. This attorney will serve as a key advisor on a wide range of employment-related legal matters, helping the company navigate complex workplace issues while supporting business growth and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, business-minded legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and enjoys partnering closely with HR, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders. This role requires on-site work in San Jose, CA on a hybrid basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the company on federal, state, and local employment law matters, with a strong focus on California employment law
- Provide counsel on employee relations issues, including performance management, investigations, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, accommodations, and terminations
- Partner with Human Resources and business leaders to manage legal risk and support workplace policies and practices
- Draft, review, and update employment-related agreements, policies, handbooks, and internal guidance
- Support internal investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace concerns
- Advise on wage and hour compliance, worker classification, restrictive covenants, and other employment-related compliance matters
- Assist with employment aspects of corporate transactions, reorganizations, and workforce changes
- Manage pre-litigation disputes, agency charges, demand letters, and outside counsel on employment claims and litigation
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders
- Deliver training on employment law topics, workplace conduct, and compliance best practices
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active membership in at least one U.S. State Bar
- 5+ years of employment law experience, ideally with a combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and multi-state employment issues
- Experience advising technology, high-growth, or fast-paced organizations preferred
- Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with practical business objectives
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, investigation, and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across the organization
Compensation
