HVAC Mechanic

Fortis Native Group is hiring a full-time HVAC Mechanic for our Southern California contract supporting NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO. The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical systems supporting government facilities. This position performs maintenance in accordance with applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and contract requirements while ensuring safe, reliable, and uninterrupted facility operations. The ideal candidate will have experience servicing air handling units, rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, pumps, and associated mechanical equipment, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units(RTUs), split systems, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, exhaust fans, make-up air units, fan coil units, and air compressors.
  • Service chilled water, hydronic heating, condenser water, condensate, and pumping systems, including pumps, motors, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace belts, bearings, filters, motors, controls, dampers, and other HVAC system components to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, leak detection, charging, and system testing in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and complete scheduled maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
  • Utilize Smartsheet's to document inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, labor, and material usage.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, NAVFAC, and contract requirements while following all company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS)policies.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, subcontractors, and Government representatives to support facility operations and complete assigned work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of contract operations.
  • Create estimates as needed.
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Possess a Driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • The HVAC Technician will have 5+ years' experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and complex systems
  • All personnel shall possess all certifications and licenses required by the State of California
  • NATE Core Service with Air Distribution Service Specialty
  • Universal certificate of completion as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. EPA Technician Certification is required under the regulation implementing Section 608 of the Clean Air Act Amendments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College degree or certification in related field desired.
  • Prior experience working with Federal contracts.
  • Former Mechanical technician experience.
  • Generator Systems
  • Fire Protection Systems
