Accounting/Payroll Manager
Responsibilities:
• Oversee payroll and accounting activities for a large employee population across multiple states, ensuring accurate and timely processing each cycle.
• Review payroll configurations such as wage assignments, earning codes, and deduction setups, then resolve inconsistencies that affect employee pay and reporting.
• Perform detailed reconciliations, audits, and cleanup work to identify payroll errors, improve data accuracy, and reduce recurring issues.
• Prepare and validate quarterly payroll-related activities, year-end support tasks, and internal financial reporting tied to payroll operations.
• Serve as a backup resource for day-to-day payroll processing, including weekly payroll cycles and support for employees on alternate pay schedules.
• Partner with leadership, accounting, and payroll staff to strengthen controls, improve workflows, and create a more reliable payroll and reporting structure.
• Analyze payroll results and provide management with clear reporting, findings, and recommendations for operational improvements.
• Contribute to future payroll and technology transformation efforts by supporting process evaluation, implementation planning, and related transition activities when needed.
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of experience in payroll, accounting, or payroll management roles with responsibility for full-cycle payroll operations.• Strong background managing high-volume, multi-state payroll, preferably for organizations with 500+ employees.
• Demonstrated expertise in payroll reconciliation, payroll tax activities, quarter-end processes, year-end payroll support, and audit execution.
• Hands-on experience using Dynamics GP in payroll or accounting environments.
• Ability to identify root causes of payroll discrepancies and drive corrective action in environments requiring significant cleanup and process improvement.
• Comfortable operating in a lean team setting where both strategic input and direct execution are expected.
• Experience supporting payroll, business, or technology transformation initiatives is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work on-site in Binghamton, New York initially and transition to a more hybrid schedule over time.
