Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a Contract position based in Newport, Vermont. This role is well suited for a detail oriented individual who can manage core financial activities, maintain accurate records, and help keep monthly reporting on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, works confidently with reconciliations and journal activity, and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Lead monthly close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing balances, and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Maintain the general ledger with accurate financial data and consistent account classification.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support and attention to accounting accuracy.
• Perform account reconciliations regularly and investigate discrepancies to resolution.
• Complete bank reconciliations by matching transactions, identifying variances, and correcting issues promptly.
• Review financial records for completeness and support the preparation of internal reporting.
• Partner with stakeholders to resolve accounting questions and improve day-to-day financial processes.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including work in a senior-level capacity.
• Demonstrated expertise in month-end close procedures and general ledger management.
• Strong background in preparing journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
• Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations accurately and efficiently.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and confidence working within accounting systems.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage priorities independently and meet recurring deadlines in a Contract role.

Compensation

$41.00-$50.00 Hourly
