Accounts Receivable Specialist

Oakland, CA 94612, US Temporary
Compensation: $30 to $35 Hourly

Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our team in the CPG industry. This role requires a candidate with strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage customer deductions, short payments, chargebacks, and account reconciliations in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with customers, sales, customer service, and internal finance teams to ensure timely cash application, accurate collections activity, and resolution of complex discrepancies.

Given the high transaction volume and deduction-heavy nature of receivables in the CPG space, we are looking for an individual who can manage intricate AR processes efficiently while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.

Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, validate, and post customer payments accurately and in a timely manner.

• Monitor customer accounts to identify past-due balances, short payments, chargebacks, deductions, and unapplied cash.

• Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to pricing, promotions, returns, rebates, freight, and other customer claims.

• Reconcile customer accounts by matching payments, credits, and deductions to supporting documentation.

• Partner with sales, customer service, logistics, and internal finance teams to research and resolve disputed items.

• Communicate with customers primarily through email and phone to follow up on outstanding balances and resolve account issues.

• Maintain accurate AR records and documentation to support collections, deductions management, and month-end close activities.

• Assist with aging review, collections reporting, and account analysis to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding receivables.

• Perform detailed “ticking and tying” of remittances, invoices, deductions, and backup documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.

• Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of AR procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in an Accounts Receivable role, preferably within consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, food and beverage, manufacturing, or distribution environments.

• Demonstrated experience handling customer deductions, chargebacks, short pays, credits, and dispute resolution. • Strong understanding of cash application, collections, account reconciliation, and aging management. • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.

• Familiarity with customer portals, remittance processing, and high-volume transactional environments.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external customers.

• High level of accuracy, organization, and analytical ability to manage complex receivables and resolve discrepancies effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with major retailers, distributors, or grocery accounts in a CPG environment.

• Knowledge of trade promotions, rebates, returns, and promotional deductions. • Experience supporting month-end close and AR reporting activities.
