We are looking for a detail-oriented Accountant to join a nonprofit organization in Honolulu, Hawaii on a Contract basis. This role supports grant-funded programs by helping maintain accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring expenses are tracked in line with funding requirements. The position is well suited for someone who enjoys working in a mission-focused environment and can balance daily accounting responsibilities with deadline-driven reporting. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply by calling us at 808-531-8056.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee financial activity for multiple grants by monitoring funding, recording expenditures, and confirming that costs are charged to the appropriate programs.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports for grant-funded operations, including the documentation needed to support reporting accuracy.
• Assist with compliance efforts by maintaining organized records and helping meet grant reporting obligations and deadlines.
• Complete reconciliations, post journal entries, and contribute to month-end close tasks to keep the general ledger current and accurate.
• Support invoicing and billing processes tied to funded programs while helping track receivables and related account activity.
• Review budgets and spending patterns to identify variances and help ensure expenses remain consistent with grant restrictions.
• Partner with program leaders and finance staff to provide financial insight, spending updates, and analysis for funded initiatives.
• Respond to audit and review requests by gathering schedules, records, and other supporting materials in a timely manner.
• Contribute to stronger accounting workflows and internal controls by identifying opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.• 1–3+ years of accounting experience in a finance or accounting environment.

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines, maintain accuracy, and stay organized in a fast-paced setting.
• Knowledge of nonprofit or grant accounting is advantageous, though not required.
• Familiarity with accounting software and financial reporting systems; experience with Sage Intacct is a plus.
