Position Description

*This is a part-time, on-call position*
Employees in this classification perform responsible professional nursing care at a unit of the Correctional facility. Responsible for the care and treatment of patients in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards, and administrative nursing personnel. Supervises other subordinate clinic personnel. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions; the position requires a high degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel, and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provides direct nursing services to patients in the health facility following standards of care of the department, documenting activities timely and accurately in patients' health records.
  • Assists with exams and procedures, within the RN scope of practice, with all activities clearly and concisely documented in patients' health records.
  • Ensures patient medications are administered following clinical and compliance policies and procedures. Ensures activities are documented clearly and concisely in medication systems and patients' health records timely and accurately.
  • Receives, documents, assesses, and responds to patient care requests according to policy and standards of the department.
  • Performs nursing rounds per department standards; any and all complaints are documented in patients' health record.
  • Oversees the clinical practice of LVNs and other clinical personnel in the health facility.


Required Qualifications

Current RN License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt. No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in nursing (LVN/RN), with at least 3 years of experience as an RN.
  • Acute care (Med/Surg, ICU, ER) nursing experience
