Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join an organization in Lansing, Michigan on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This role supports core accounting operations by handling financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to timely reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger experience, sound judgment in processing payments and expenses, and the ability to work accurately in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Process outgoing payments and account disbursements with accuracy and appropriate documentation.

• Review and record business expenses to ensure proper classification and compliance with accounting standards.

• Prepare and issue commission and profit-sharing payments in a timely manner.

• Generate recurring financial reports and verify daily activity for completeness and accuracy.

• Maintain general ledger records and support account reconciliation efforts.

• Create and post journal entries to reflect routine and adjusting accounting activity.

• Monitor payment progress and update check status records as needed.

• Assist with tax-related accounting tasks, including support for sales and corporate tax reporting.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.
• Proficiency with journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliation.
• Knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support activities.
• Ability to manage payment processing, disbursements, and expense recording accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce reliable financial reports.
• Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in an accounting environment that values accuracy and thoroughness.

Compensation

$21.00-$26.00 Hourly
