Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support complex real estate accounting activities in Dallas, Texas. This role is responsible for reviewing property and fund-level financial data, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately, and partnering with internal teams and external managers to maintain high reporting standards. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger expertise, sound analytical judgment, and a solid understanding of accounting processes within the real estate industry.

Responsibilities:
• Evaluate financial statements and monthly reporting deliverables prepared by external partners, provide clear feedback, and help ensure reporting quality remains consistent.
• Combine and analyze accounting information across multiple property and fund entities while building a strong understanding of ownership structures and cash flow relationships.
• Examine capital asset activity to confirm additions are recorded in line with established capitalization guidelines.
• Assess lease documentation and verify that lease-related accounting is handled according to company policy and required procedures.
• Interpret joint venture agreements, record ownership activity through journal entries, and maintain waterfall calculations to reflect effective ownership changes over time.
• Partner with Asset Management to review construction funding requests, reconcile construction-in-progress balances to supporting documentation, and validate related accruals.
• Analyze budget-to-actual reporting to identify unusual variances, research potential ledger issues, and support corrective action where needed.
• Prepare investment performance metrics such as time-weighted returns, internal rates of return, and equity multiples, while assisting with reporting requests from investors and clients.
• Support acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions by reviewing settlement details, validating prorations, and recording related general ledger entries.
• Coordinate wire activity with Treasury and help fulfill lender reporting obligations by reviewing loan terms and submitting approved financial information on schedule.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience managing month-end close activities in an accounting environment.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.
• Experience performing bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies with accuracy and timeliness.
• Background in real estate accounting, including exposure to property-level or fund-level financial reporting.
• Ability to review complex agreements, such as leases, joint venture documents, and loan agreements, and apply accounting treatment appropriately.
• Proficiency in analyzing financial results, identifying inconsistencies, and communicating findings effectively.
• Capable of coordinating with cross-functional teams and third-party stakeholders in a deadline-driven setting.
