Auditing Clerk

We are looking for a detail-oriented Auditing Clerk to join a services team in Houston, Texas on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, identifying inconsistencies, and supporting compliance-focused audit activity. The role will involve reviewing tax-related information, researching business records, and preparing clear documentation to support corrective action and reporting accuracy.

Responsibilities:
• Examine sales tax permit records to identify businesses that may be operating without the appropriate registrations.
• Assess sales and use tax filing information to uncover possible errors in local tax allocation and reporting.
• Research external sources such as licensing records, business announcements, and public information databases to detect potential compliance issues.
• Use Excel to sort, compare, and analyze data sets while creating efficient approaches for recurring reviews.
• Apply AI-supported research tools to improve analysis, recognize trends, and increase productivity in investigative work.
• Compile findings into organized reports and submit recommendations for account updates or corrections.
• Suggest practical improvements to analysis methods, research resources, and compliance review processes.
• Provide additional administrative and audit support as needed to assist the broader compliance team.

Qualifications:

• Entry-level experience or demonstrated interest in auditing, tax review, compliance, or financial data analysis.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize and evaluate data accurately.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies in records.
• Ability to prepare clear audit notes, summaries, and supporting documentation.
• Comfortable using research tools and digital resources to investigate business information.
• Familiarity with reconciliation, audit reporting, or related clerical review work is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments effectively.

Compensation

$19.00-$22.00 Hourly
