Bookkeeper

Compensation: $23 to $25 Hourly

We are looking for a detail-oriented part time Bookkeeper or Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a non-profit organization in Grand Haven, Michigan, 10-15 hours weekly. This has weekly remote potential after 4-8 hours on site. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who combines strong accounting knowledge with sound judgment, accuracy, and discretion when working with financial records and donor-related information. The person in this role will help maintain reliable reporting, support day-to-day transactions, and contribute to efficient, compliant accounting practices.


Responsibilities:

• Review and document incoming contributions to maintain accurate donation records and support reliable financial reporting.

• Manage the accounts payable cycle by coding, entering, and preparing invoices for timely review and payment.

• Assist with scheduled payroll processing while preserving accuracy, confidentiality, and complete supporting documentation.

• Produce monthly financial statements and related reports for leadership and board-level visibility.

• Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts to keep the general ledger current and accurate.

• Partner with external auditors and internal stakeholders by preparing records and supporting materials for annual audit activities.

• Uphold non-profit accounting standards and internal control procedures across routine financial tasks.

• Maintain orderly electronic and physical files to ensure financial documents are secure, accessible, and audit-ready.

• Use accounting systems and spreadsheet tools to streamline workflows and recommend practical improvements to reporting accuracy and efficiency.


Qualifications:

• Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit organization or a similarly regulated environment.
• Hands-on proficiency with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Demonstrated ability to handle accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll support, and financial record maintenance.
• Strong attention to detail with solid analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to protect confidential information and exercise discretion with sensitive financial and donor data.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Experience supporting audit preparation and annual financial reporting is strongly preferred.

Compensation

$23.00-$25.00 Hourly
