Accounting Specialist
Responsibilities:
• Perform frequent account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and clear outstanding items within assigned general ledger accounts.
• Process a range of accounting activities, including wires, payroll-related transactions, direct payments, and daily posting of mailed deposits and loan payments.
• Handle inquiries from members and internal teams by researching issues, correcting payment or dividend transactions, and providing accurate follow-up.
• Support accounts payable and other core accounting operations while helping maintain balanced bank and corporate credit union accounts.
• Contribute to reporting activities, remittances, and special projects requested by accounting leadership.
• Provide guidance to team members by assisting with training, sharing subject matter knowledge, and serving as a resource during day-to-day operations.
• Step in as departmental support when supervisory coverage is needed and assist with cross-functional administrative or accounting tasks.
• Review transaction activity and documentation for accuracy, compliance, and timely completion in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, with a strong focus on reconciliations and transaction accuracy.• Previous experience in a financial institution or credit union environment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing support, and general accounting processes.
• Familiarity with Symitar and confidence using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research and resolve complex accounting issues independently.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting daily deadlines.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, along with professionalism when working with internal departments and external contacts.
• High school diploma required; additional college coursework in accounting is preferred.
