Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller with non profit experience to support financial leadership and accounting operations for a Contract position based in New London, Connecticut. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate reporting, strengthening compliance activities, and guiding close processes across multiple accounting areas. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in general accounting, financial statement preparation, grant-related reporting, and audit support within a detail-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist and support fiscal year end close

• Produce timely financial reports and help ensure reporting accuracy for internal and external stakeholders.

• Support compliance-related work across tax, regulatory, institutional, and grant requirements.

• Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement activity during monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles.

• Manage and monitor both restricted and unrestricted cash activity to support sound financial controls.

• Prepare targeted spending analyses for departments and programs as requested by finance leadership or organizational management.

• Assist in compiling monthly and year-end financial statements for both internal review and external use.

• Coordinate documentation and schedules needed for audit requests and assist with audit preparation activities.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting role with responsibility for financial oversight.
• Strong background in general accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Proficiency in analyzing balance sheets and income statements with a high degree of accuracy.
• Experience supporting audit preparation and responding to auditor documentation requests.
• Working knowledge of compliance requirements related to tax, regulatory, institutional, federal grant, or foundation grant environments.
• Familiarity with grant accounting, including oversight of restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Experience using Blackbaud or similar financial systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a deadline-driven setting.

Compensation

$45.00-$52.00 Hourly
