Property Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Property Accountant to support daily financial activity and maintain accurate accounting records for a property portfolio in Westchester New York. This role focuses on cash activity, receivables oversight, monthly entries, and account analysis while partnering with property management to keep financial data current and well organized. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with property accounting systems, managing recurring accounting tasks, and assisting with reporting needs throughout the year.
Responsibilities:
• Record and apply incoming cash receipts accurately and in a timely manner to maintain current financial records.
• Review accounting adjustments, secure proper authorization, and enter approved batches into the system.
• Track prepaid balances, update supporting schedules, and prepare recurring monthly journal entries.
• Organize and maintain audit support worksheets to streamline year-end financial review activities.
• Analyze accounts receivable aging and collaborate with property managers to resolve discrepancies and improve collection accuracy.
• Oversee tenant security deposit accounts to confirm correct tenant information and ensure deposit accounting is completed for former tenants.
• Update escrow analysis schedules by verifying changes from external agents and monitoring self-managed escrow balances for future funding needs.
• Post daily financial transactions and support routine cash management activities across assigned properties.
• Assist with special assignments and additional accounting projects as business needs arise.
Qualifications:
• At least 1 year of experience in property accounting or a related accounting role.• Working knowledge of property accounting platforms such as MRI or Yardi.
• Experience with bank reconciliations, daily cash receipt processing, and prepaid account maintenance.
• Familiarity with accounts receivable management and aging review.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Ability to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize multiple accounting tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in spreadsheet reporting and account analysis.
• Strong communication skills to work effectively with property managers and other stakeholders.
Compensation
