Sr. Accountant
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a Contract position based in Eugene, Oregon. This role is well suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can contribute quickly in a fast-paced setting. Candidates who can work on site are preferred, though remote consideration may be given to those with strong municipal and audit experience.
Responsibilities:
• Lead month-end accounting activities, ensuring timely completion of close tasks and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
• Manage bank reconciliation activities and investigate outstanding items to support clean cash reporting.
• Review accounting records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable governmental accounting standards.
• Support audit-related requests by organizing documentation, answering inquiries, and assisting with required schedules.
• Use advanced Excel capabilities to analyze financial data, track issues, and improve visibility in manual processes.
• Work within PeopleSoft, when applicable, to process transactions and maintain accounting information.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to strengthen accounting workflows and provide dependable financial support throughout the engagement.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for month-end close and general ledger activity.
• Strong background in preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
• Experience supporting audits and responding effectively to auditor requests.
• Knowledge of governmental accounting practices; municipal accounting experience is especially valuable.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to work accurately in manual or spreadsheet-driven environments.
• Familiarity with PeopleSoft is preferred.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results within contract timelines.
• Remote candidates must bring direct municipal accounting experience along with audit expertise
