Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely reporting, and helping the organization meet tax and compliance obligations. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate general ledger activity by recording, reviewing, and reconciling financial transactions across company accounts and assets.

• Prepare interim financial statements and supporting schedules to assist leadership with reporting and financial analysis.

• Manage bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure completeness and accuracy of cash records.

• Oversee corporate, payroll, sales, and other applicable tax filings to support compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

• Process payroll activities, including earnings calculations, direct deposits, tax withholdings, and maintenance of vacation and sick leave balances.

• Administer union-related payroll components by maintaining codes, preparing reports, and submitting required payments and documentation.

• Coordinate responses to external reviews and audits, including those related to state agencies, insurance carriers, and union reporting.

• Review intercompany activity, support state registrations and filings, and complete prequalification documentation for agency submissions.

• Support Sage 100 Contractor administration by managing user access, permissions, and core accounting functions within the system.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; an accounting certification is preferred.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience in a role with responsibility for financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, payroll tax, and general compliance requirements.
• Experience preparing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and producing supporting financial documentation.
• Proficiency with accounting software and strong overall computer skills; experience with Sage 100 Contractor is an advantage.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.

Compensation

$70,000.00-$80,000.00 Yearly
