Staff Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a non-profit organization in San Francisco, California. This Long-term Contract position will contribute to accurate financial reporting by managing payables activity, preparing journal entries, and maintaining reliable accounting records. The role also works closely with program and finance teams to help ensure expenses are recorded appropriately and align with grant and operational requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Review and process vendor invoices, confirm supporting documentation is complete, and assign accurate account coding and grant classifications.
• Coordinate recurring payment cycles and help ensure disbursements are issued accurately and on schedule.
• Reconcile vendor accounts, investigate billing differences, and keep accounts payable records current and well organized.
• Prepare journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, allocations, payroll activity, and other general ledger transactions.
• Maintain detailed schedules and backup documentation to support monthly close and ongoing account analysis.
• Assist with bank and general ledger reconciliations to promote accuracy across financial records.
• Collaborate with program leaders and finance management to validate coding, answer accounting questions, and support special reporting needs.
• Provide additional accounting support across accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and related finance projects as needed.
Qualifications:
• Experience preparing journal entries and supporting general ledger activity in a detail-focused accounting environment.• Working knowledge of accounts payable processes, including invoice review, coding, and payment coordination.
• Familiarity with accounts receivable fundamentals and maintaining accurate transactional records.
• Ability to complete bank reconciliations and research discrepancies with strong attention to detail.
• Understanding of month-end close responsibilities, supporting schedules, and account analysis.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with finance teams and non-financial stakeholders.
Compensation
