Cyber Security Engineer

Robert Half is actively partnering with an Austin-based client to identify a Cyber Security Engineer (contract). In this role, you will support enterprise security governance, risk management, and vulnerability management initiatives. This role will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to assess risk, strengthen security controls, and help protect critical systems and data across a complex enterprise environment. This role is hybrid in Austin, Tx. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct security risk assessments for new technologies, applications, infrastructure projects, and third-party vendors.
• Support client, partner, and regulatory security reviews, audits, assessments, and questionnaires.
• Manage and enhance vulnerability management and security assessment programs, including reporting, metrics, procedures, and documentation.
• Monitor emerging threats, security risks, and vulnerabilities, coordinating remediation efforts with internal teams.
• Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and engineering teams to evaluate and implement security controls and technologies.
• Serve as a cybersecurity subject matter expert, providing guidance to technical and business stakeholders on security best practices.
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and enforcement of information security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Support security strategy initiatives, risk mitigation efforts, compliance activities, and issue management processes.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to ongoing team development and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, vulnerability management, security assessments, or a related information security function.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience conducting security assessments across Windows, Linux, or Unix-based environments.
• Deep understanding of enterprise security controls, infrastructure security, and cloud technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards including ISO 27001, NIST, SOC, CIS Controls, or similar methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with vulnerability management tools, identity and access management (IAM), endpoint security solutions, network security technologies, encryption, and security monitoring tools.
• Experience with scripting, automation, or API integrations using tools such as PowerShell or Python is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industry certifications such as CISSP, CEH, OSCP, Security+, CISM, or similar credentials.
• Experience supporting security governance, risk management, compliance, or enterprise security programs within a large organization.
