Job Summary
The America Reads Tutor serves as a literacy mentor for elementary school students at participating public schools. Through one-on-one and small group tutoring, tutors help children strengthen reading and literacy skills while fostering confidence, academic success, and a positive attitude toward learning. This position provides University of Kentucky students with meaningful community engagement experience while supporting local schools through the Federal Work-Study Program.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Dependability and professionalism. Ability to work well with children. Basic organizational and time management skills. Interest in education, literacy, or mentoring.

Preferred Education/Experience
Previous tutoring or mentoring experience. Experience working with elementary-aged children. Experience in classrooms, after-school programs, camps, childcare, or youth organizations. Experience supporting literacy, reading, or academic enrichment activities.
