Contract Attorney

Compensation: $63.34 to $73.34 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Attorney/Lawyer to join a team in Austin, Texas as part of a Long-term Contract engagement. This position focuses on supporting commercial transactions and insurance-related partnerships within a regulated property and casualty environment, while delivering practical legal guidance that aligns with business goals. The ideal candidate brings strong contract negotiation skills, sound judgment on regulatory and operational risk, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to keep agreements moving efficiently from review through execution.

Responsibilities:
• Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial agreements involving software services, artificial intelligence tools, vendor relationships, confidentiality terms, and insurance distribution arrangements.
• Advise business partners on legal exposure, compliance considerations, and contract terms in a way that supports informed and timely decision-making.
• Collaborate with teams across procurement, technology, marketing, compliance, and insurance operations to address contract needs and resolve legal questions.
• Oversee a steady pipeline of agreements, balancing turnaround time, business objectives, and acceptable risk levels throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Identify nonstandard or higher-risk provisions, elevate significant concerns when appropriate, and recommend practical alternatives to move negotiations forward.
• Strengthen contracting practices by refining templates, guidance materials, approval workflows, negotiation positions, and self-service resources.
• Monitor agreement activity and reporting data to spot trends, improve consistency, and increase operational efficiency.
• Provide counsel on legal issues related to insurance regulation, consumer protection, privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technology use, including AI.
• Help internal stakeholders understand complex legal concepts by delivering clear guidance, training, and actionable recommendations.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor degree and active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of legal experience gained in-house, in a law firm, or through a combination of both settings.
• Demonstrated success negotiating commercial and technology-related contracts in a business-facing legal role.
• Working knowledge of the insurance sector or prior support for procurement, vendor management, or similar commercial functions.
• Familiarity with legal and regulatory issues involving data privacy, cybersecurity, and risk management in a regulated environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate legal issues into practical business advice.
• Experience handling high-volume contract work while maintaining attention to detail and sound legal judgment.
• Background in litigation-related work such as motion drafting, briefing, discovery, or broader civil litigation is valued.

Compensation

$63.34-$73.34 Hourly
