Human Resources (HR) Generalist

Washington, DC 20036-1136, US Contract
Compensation: $23.75 to $27.50 Hourly

We are looking for an HR Generalist to support core people operations for a growing organization in Washington, District of Columbia. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing employee support, administrative accuracy, and day-to-day HR coordination. The person in this role will contribute across onboarding, benefits administration, HR records management, and employee relations while helping maintain efficient and compliant HR processes.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the full onboarding experience for new employees, including preparing documentation, scheduling orientation activities, and ensuring a smooth start.
• Provide day-to-day support for employee relations matters by responding to questions, escalating concerns when appropriate, and helping maintain a positive workplace environment.
• Administer benefits-related processes such as enrollments, updates, and employee communications while serving as a resource for basic benefits inquiries.
• Maintain accurate personnel records and manage HR documentation within the HRIS to support data integrity, reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Assist with routine HR administration, including processing employment changes, tracking required paperwork, and supporting policy-related communications.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure HR procedures are carried out consistently and that employee information is handled with confidentiality.
• Support audits, reporting requests, and documentation reviews by organizing files and verifying that records are current and complete.
• Contribute to HR process improvements, including updates tied to systems or workflow changes, as needed within the department.

Qualifications:

• Experience supporting employee relations, HR administration, onboarding, benefits functions, and HRIS processes.
• Working knowledge of standard human resources practices, documentation requirements, and employee record management.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality in all HR activities.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and follow through on time-sensitive tasks.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with a thorough and service-oriented approach.
• Proficiency with HR systems and standard office software used for documentation, tracking, and reporting.
• Accuracy-focused mindset with the ability to maintain accuracy across employee data and administrative processes.

Compensation

$23.75-$27.50 Hourly
