Inventory Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Inventory Accountant to oversee inventory accounting processes, maintain accurate inventory records, and support financial reporting. This role is responsible for inventory reconciliations, cost analysis, variance investigations, and ensuring inventory transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly inventory reconciliations between inventory sub-ledgers and the general ledger.
  • Analyze inventory transactions, variances, and inventory reserves.
  • Monitor inventory levels and investigate discrepancies, shortages, and overages.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
  • Review product costing, inventory valuation, and standard cost updates.
  • Collaborate with operations, purchasing, warehousing, and supply chain teams to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Analyze inventory metrics including turnover, obsolescence, and shrinkage.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain reports to improve inventory visibility and financial accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in inventory, cost accounting, manufacturing, or distribution environments.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturing, distribution, or logistics industry experience.
  • Experience with standard costing, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and inventory valuation methods.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification a plus.
