The Quality Assurance SME will support the space program located in Moffett Field, CA. Provides support identifying, assessing, and minimizing risks by performing various systems and mission assurance (e.g. quality assurance, quality control, quality inspections) functions. Several of the main tools used in achieving the above are hazards analysis, work package inspections and audits, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, process improvements, and risk-based requirements flow down and execution such that all the projects and line organizations comply with the appropriate requirements and address the areas of highest risk. The scope of this work includes space flight and facility projects at NASA Ames Research Center, an industrial research environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Executes the Quality Assurance function following the requirements, deliverables, and deadlines provided by the customer for Systems Safety and Mission Assurance.
  • Attend project status meetings, QS team meetings, Test Readiness Reviews and post-test meetings, gate reviews, and other meetings called by the project or the Chief Safety and Mission Assurance Officer (CSO), as applicable.
  • Review and approve technical drawings to ensure compliance with requirements and best shop practices.
  • Review and approve drawings to ensure they include all applicable QA inspections and documentation.
  • Inspect parts to ensure compliance to drawings or specifications.
  • Generate Non-Conformance Reports for nonconforming hardware and identify the full Center-wide scope of said nonconformities.
  • Verify corrective actions used to close out nonconformities for completeness, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Participate in review boards to disposition nonconforming hardware.
  • Review and approve fabrication or assembly procedures to ensure compliance with requirements, best shop practice, and inclusion of applicable QA inspections and witness points.
  • Inspect fabricated parts or assemblies to ensure compliance with NASA or other applicable workmanship standards
  • Review and approve test procedures to ensure that tests are demonstrating conformance of tested hardware or software to requirements, are following applicable safety procedures, and have appropriate inspection and witness points.
  • Inspect test setups, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems to ensure that they are functional, safe, and have current calibrations.
  • Witness tests and test related activities.
  • Review and approve test data and test reports.
  • Witness and approve post-test and/or flight prep activities such as handling, packaging, and shipping.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of quality assurance performing in an aerospace environment.
  • In lieu of a degree: Fourteen (14), or more, years of recent and related work experience will be considered.
  • Acknowledged at the industry level in quality assurance and is an authority in relevant engineering principles and practices.
  • Expert at the industry level as a major contributor to the technical planning process and for providing technical guidance.
  • Must have experience writing and reviewing technical reports that follow standard scientific methodology.

DESIRED:

  • Knowledge of NASA NPR 8730.5 (NASA Quality Assurance Program Policy) which includes the industry standards ISO 9001, AS 9100, and AS 9003
  • Experience working as a government contractor or on government contracts.

WORK LOCATION:

  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule; some travel may be required.
  • Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.

SALARY RANGE:

$160K to $187K, salary will depend on education and experience.
