PRN Medical Assistant

Position Description

A job involving an appointment for infrequent temporary work where the employee is called in as needed. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of care activities in an assigned specialty or subspecialty outpatient clinic on an as-needed basis. The incumbent is assigned per the direction of the section manager of the PRN nursing pool. Work is performed as part of the total healthcare team to provide complete patient evaluations/assessments.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with LVNs, RNs, physicians, and physician assistants to support patient care
  • Welcome patients and escort them to exam rooms, ensuring a comfortable experience
  • Perform patient triage, assessing urgency and clinical needs
  • Record vital signs and obtain brief medical history for provider review
  • Administer oral and injectable medications as prescribed by the physician


Occasional Duties

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty in which the particular work will be performed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Cerner
  • Prior experience in a clinical setting
