Property Accountant

Compensation: $27.71 to $32.09 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Property Accountant to support a real estate portfolio in Houston, Texas through a Contract assignment. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing core accounting activity, and delivering timely reporting for property operations. The ideal candidate brings strong property accounting expertise, sound judgment around financial controls, and hands-on experience working in Yardi within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Manage daily financial activity for an assigned property portfolio, including incoming payments, application of cash, and outgoing disbursements.
• Prepare and complete month-end close tasks by recording accruals, reviewing the general ledger, and ensuring financial data is accurate and complete.
• Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany balances, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable aging, following up on outstanding items and supporting accurate balance tracking.
• Maintain rent-related reporting and review recurring billing activity to help ensure revenue is recorded properly.
• Analyze portfolio performance data and provide financial insights to support operational and budget-related decision-making.
• Track spending against approved budgets and identify unusual trends, reporting concerns or variances to stakeholders.
• Use Yardi to process accounting transactions, generate reports, and maintain organized property financial records.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in property accounting, preferably within real estate, property management, or facilities-related environments.
• Proficiency with Yardi software and the ability to navigate property accounting workflows efficiently.
• Strong background in month-end close, including accrual accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger review.
• Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash activity for multiple properties or entities.
• Solid understanding of bank reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and portfolio-level financial reporting.
• Ability to analyze financial results, monitor budgets, and identify discrepancies with a high level of accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines in a Contract role.

Compensation

$27.71-$32.09 Hourly
