Project Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Project Accountant in Greenville, South Carolina. This contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can manage project accounting activities from setup through closeout while partnering with operations, leadership, and clients. The role requires strong analytical skills, accuracy in billing and reporting, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Review contract, purchase order, and related project documentation to create accurate financial summaries and establish a solid foundation for project tracking
• Set up new projects correctly in the accounting system and apply company accounting practices consistently across assigned work
• Support project coordination activities by contributing to internal and external alignment discussions with stakeholders
• Process rental-related accounting updates, prepare client billings, and help drive timely collection of outstanding receivables
• Investigate and clear unresolved financial items such as open purchase orders, vouchers, third-party reconciliations, work orders, and cost discrepancies
• Prepare monthly financial variance reporting that compares current performance with prior results and forecast expectations
• Contribute to project review meetings by assembling financial data, highlighting issues, and providing insight into project performance
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial closeout tasks to help ensure projects are completed accurately and efficiently
• Collaborate with internal teams, leadership, clients, external partners, and auditors while maintaining compliance with company policies and safety expectations
Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within construction or contractor-based environments
• Working knowledge of construction accounting principles, including billing, cost tracking, reconciliations, and project closeout support
• Ability to interpret contracts, purchase orders, and project-related financial documentation with a high degree of accuracy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify variances and resolve outstanding accounting issues
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with operations, leadership, clients, and auditors
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting
Compensation
