Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to provide dependable financial support for a mission-focused organization. This Long-term Contract position is designed for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can step into daily accounting activities, help maintain continuity across the finance function, and work closely with the Controller and accounting team. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage priorities independently while contributing to a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage routine accounting tasks by recording financial activity accurately and keeping underlying records current and well organized.

• Support the general ledger through transaction review, account analysis, and the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and other period-end adjustments.

• Contribute to monthly and annual closing activities by verifying balances, reviewing activity for accuracy, and helping finalize financial results on schedule.

• Prepare reconciliations for bank and balance sheet accounts, research unusual variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Generate financial reports and respond to ad hoc analysis requests to improve visibility into operating results and key accounting trends.

• Assemble audit schedules and supporting documentation, coordinate requested materials, and help maintain readiness for external review processes.

• Maintain compliance with internal accounting practices and nonprofit reporting expectations by ensuring documentation is complete and properly supported.

• Use Sage Intacct to build, update, and refine reports while assisting team members with data extraction and reporting needs.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated background in general accounting, including work with the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Solid knowledge of accrual-based accounting and GAAP principles.
• Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes with strong attention to accuracy and deadlines.
• Ability to prepare journal entries and work across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation activities.
• Prior involvement in audit support, including preparing schedules and responding to documentation requests.
• Proficiency with Sage Intacct is strongly preferred, especially for reporting, report writing, or dashboard-related tasks.
• Strong organizational skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in an independent remote setting.
• Effective communication skills and a collaborative, flexible approach to supporting team priorities.

Compensation

$33.25-$38.50 Hourly
