Staff Accountant

Compensation: $60 to $90 Yearly

Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant with experience supporting HUD-assisted and affordable housing properties. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio of properties, ensuring compliance with HUD regulations while maintaining accurate financial records and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and account reconciliations for assigned properties.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain general ledger activity, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and submit HUD-required financial reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with HUD regulations, affordable housing requirements, and company policies.
  • Monitor cash balances and assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and reserve accounts.
  • Assist with annual audits, regulatory reviews, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with property management teams to resolve accounting and operational issues.
  • Support special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.



Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in general accounting, grant accounting, or a similar financial reporting role.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and month-end journal entry preparation.
• Experience using general ledger and computerized accounting systems, along with intermediate Excel skills.
• Familiarity with HUD housing programs, subsidy processes, and regulatory reporting is strongly preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with careful attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with auditors, agency contacts, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Compensation

$60,000.00-$90,000.00 Yearly
