Bookkeeper

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join a contracting company in College Point, New York, on a Contract basis. This short-term opportunity is ideal for someone who can take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, maintain organized financial records, and work confidently with minimal supervision. The right candidate will bring a strong background in construction-related accounting and a practical approach to producing reliable reporting and cost tracking.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee the complete accounting cycle, including transaction recording, ledger maintenance, and month-end financial close activities.
• Process vendor invoices and payments accurately while maintaining organized accounts payable records and payment schedules.
• Manage customer billing, monitor incoming payments, and follow up on outstanding balances to support healthy accounts receivable activity.
• Perform regular bank and account reconciliations to ensure financial records remain accurate and up to date.
• Prepare clear financial reports that support business decisions and provide visibility into company performance.
• Track project-related expenses and labor allocations to deliver accurate job costing information for construction work.
• Strengthen accounting workflows by improving consistency, documentation, and day-to-day financial organization.
• Utilize Sage 100 effectively for accounting operations and help optimize how the system is used across bookkeeping activities.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in bookkeeping with the ability to manage accounting functions independently.
• Background in construction accounting, including familiarity with project cost tracking and job-related financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of Sage 100 and QuickBooks in an accounting environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial data and reports.
• Ability to organize priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a short-term contract role.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work with limited oversight in a hands-on business setting.

Compensation

$35.15-$40.70 Hourly
