Legal Operations Specialist
Our client, an innovative technology company, is seeking a Legal Operations Specialist to provide short-term support to its Privacy, Product, and Marketing Legal team with the processing and coordination of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs). The Legal Operations Specialist will support privacy-related legal workflows by coordinating with outside counsel and internal stakeholders, organizing and tracking information and documentation, managing follow-up items and deadlines, and helping requests progress efficiently through established processes. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience supporting in-house legal, legal operations, privacy, or compliance functions and be able to quickly learn new processes and independently manage detailed, time-sensitive work with limited ramp-up. While the ability to report onsite in San Francisco is preferred, our client is open to remote candidates for this 2–3-month contract need.
Responsibilities
- Support the intake, processing, tracking, and completion of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs).
- Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders throughout the DSAR process.
- Gather, organize, and maintain information and documentation associated with privacy requests.
- Track requests, deadlines, outstanding items, stakeholder responses, and required follow-up through completion.
- Communicate with appropriate internal teams to obtain information and keep requests progressing within established timelines.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of requests, communications, documentation, and completed work.
- Support privacy and compliance workflows involving sensitive personal and confidential information.
- Identify missing information, discrepancies, or outstanding action items and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
- Manage multiple concurrent requests and priorities while maintaining accuracy and consistent follow-through.
- Learn established legal processes, systems, and workflows quickly and independently manage assigned responsibilities.
- Escalate substantive legal questions and issues requiring attorney review to the appropriate members of the legal team.
Qualifications:
- Experience supporting an in-house legal department, legal operations team, privacy function, compliance function, or similar corporate legal environment.
- Experience supporting privacy, data protection, regulatory compliance, or other legal matters involving sensitive or confidential information.
- Familiarity with privacy and data protection requirements, including GDPR and/or CCPA/CPRA.
- Experience coordinating structured, deadline-driven legal or compliance workflows involving multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working with attorneys, internal business stakeholders, and/or outside counsel.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, documentation, and follow-up items simultaneously.
- Experience gathering, organizing, tracking, and maintaining information and documentation throughout established legal or compliance processes.
- Ability to quickly learn new processes, systems, and workflows and become productive with limited ramp-up time.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across legal and business teams.
- Strong attention to detail and experience handling confidential or sensitive information.
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience processing Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), Data Subject Rights requests, or similar privacy requests.
- Experience supporting privacy counsel or a dedicated privacy legal function.
- Experience supporting privacy operations within a technology company or other fast-paced corporate environment.
Compensation
