Senior Engineering Drafter

Onboard Systems Hoist & Winch, located in Anaheim, CA is one of the world’s leading providers of Search & Rescue (SAR) and Human External Cargo (HEC) advanced mission equipment for civil, commercial, and military helicopters.
Position Overview
Location: Anaheim, CA (Onsite/Hybrid)
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Pay: $125,000 - $132,000 per year
The Senior Engineering Drafter will develop and revise detailed electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, assemblies, and technical documentation supporting the design, manufacture, testing, and sustainment of aerospace products. Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams, this individual will ensure all released documentation meets company standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations.
In addition, this position is part of a team responsible for evaluating and assigning export control classifications and restrictions for engineering drawings and technical documents in accordance with applicable U.S. export regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) requirements.
What You’ll Do
Engineering Documentation
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, harnesses and interconnect drawings.
- Develop and revise mechanical part, assembly, installation, and manufacturing drawings using 3D CAD models in compliance with industry and company drafting standards.
- Generate engineering change documentation, including Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Create and maintain Bills Of Materials (BOMs), drawing trees, released data packages and supporting technical documentation.
- Ensure drawings and documents conform to ASME Y14.100, Y14.5 GD&T, company standards, customer specifications and aerospace industry best practices.
- Collaborate with design engineers to incorporate design changes and resolve documentation discrepancies.
- Support manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and product support organizations by providing accurate and timely engineering documentation.
Product Data Management
- Manage engineering documentation within Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Maintain drawing revisions, workflows, approvals, and configuration control in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure proper organization, traceability, and archival of engineering data throughout the product lifecycle.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend and implement improvements to drafting standards, document control processes, and engineering workflows.
- Support process automation and digital transformation initiatives within engineering and product data management systems.
- Mentor junior drafters and provide guidance on drafting standards, best practices, and documentation quality.
Additional Duties
- The incumbent is also one of our Export Compliance reviewers. Expect training for the following duties:
- Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and technical documents to determine export control classifications and restrictions.
- Apply appropriate export control markings and distribution statements to engineering documentation.
- Support compliance with U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and applicable Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) requirements.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Contracts and Trade Compliance personnel to ensure proper classification and handling of technical data.
- Maintain records supporting export control determinations and documentation release decisions.
- Assist with audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives related to export-controlled technical data
Who You Are
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 7 years of engineering drafting experience, preferably within aerospace, aviation, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing industries.
- Advanced proficiency with: Siemens NX, Teamcenter PLM, SolidWorks
- Experience creating both electrical and mechanical engineering documentation.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards, revision control and configuration management.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation in a controlled engineering environment.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows-based business systems and Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications and design requirements for documentation purposes.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting aerospace electromechanical products, hoists, winches, actuators, or related systems.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace documentation requirements.
- Knowledge of military specifications, aerospace standards, and qualification testing documentation.
- Experience applying export control classifications, technical data controls, and compliance requirements.
- Background working in a collaborative engineering environment supporting both new product development and production programs.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related technical discipline.
