Bookkeeper

We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support in a Contract position based in Carpentersville, Illinois. This interim assignment is expected to run for at least four weeks and will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly accounting activities, and helping keep day-to-day transactions organized. The role offers flexible work hours and is well suited to someone who is comfortable working independently while coordinating with staff for a smooth handoff and onboarding process.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily bookkeeping tasks and maintain accurate records for financial transactions.

• Process transactional accounting activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable support as needed.

• Prepare journal entries and assist with completing monthly close procedures on schedule.

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting.

• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation for account activity.

• Contribute to monthly financial reporting by organizing data and verifying account accuracy.

• Work with internal accounting staff during training and knowledge transfer to quickly assume assigned duties.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping and high-volume transactional accounting work.
• Strong ability to prepare journal entries and complete balance sheet reconciliations accurately.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, and account support.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation processes.
• Familiarity with accounting software; experience with Tyler Technologies Munis is preferred.
• Ability to adapt quickly in an interim assignment and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Government accounting experience is welcome but not required.

Compensation

$25.00-$32.00 Hourly
