Cost Accountant

We are looking for a Cost Accountant to support financial operations within a manufacturing environment in Portland, Tennessee. This role focuses on analyzing product and production costs, maintaining accurate inventory-related accounting, and helping ensure timely month-end reporting. The position works closely with plant leadership and provides direct support to the Controller through detailed financial analysis and strong Excel-based reporting.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review cost accounting activities for manufacturing operations, including analysis of production spending and product costs.
• Complete month-end close tasks by recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and verifying the accuracy of financial data.
• Maintain inventory accounting records and investigate variances affecting material, labor, and overhead balances.
• Develop and update standard cost information to support operational planning and financial reporting.
• Create detailed Excel reports and models that help management evaluate performance, trends, and cost drivers.
• Partner with plant leaders and cross-functional teams to explain results, resolve discrepancies, and improve cost visibility.
• Assist the Controller with recurring reporting, financial analysis, and other accounting priorities tied to plant performance.

Qualifications:

• Experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing setting.
• Working knowledge of standard costing principles and cost variance analysis.
• Ability to manage month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Understanding of inventory accounting practices and their impact on financial statements.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for analysis, reporting, and data organization.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret financial information accurately.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with plant leadership and accounting management.

Compensation

$90,000.00-$120,000.00 Yearly
