Compensation: $83 to $100 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Employment Attorney to support a short-term Contract engagement. This opportunity is focused on assessing wage-and-hour classifications and reviewing an employee handbook for a small retail employer with a limited workforce. The attorney will provide practical legal guidance, confirm whether current roles are properly designated under applicable employment laws, and help ensure handbook language aligns with the organization’s present staffing structure.


Responsibilities:

• Evaluate employee duties and compensation arrangements to determine whether current positions meet exempt or non-exempt standards under applicable wage-and-hour laws.

• Analyze the responsibilities of specialized and administrative roles, including watchmaker, photographer, and office management functions, and provide clear classification recommendations.

• Conduct a comprehensive review of the existing employee handbook to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or compliance concerns.

• Refine handbook language and policies so they accurately reflect the employer’s current workforce structure and legal obligations.

• Deliver practical legal conclusions and guidance for finalizing employee classifications and handbook provisions within the defined project timeline.

• Advise on employment law compliance considerations relevant to a small retail business operating with salaried staff.

• Summarize findings and recommendations in a clear format that supports prompt decision-making for this one-day engagement.


Qualifications:

• California Licensed attorney in good standing with experience advising on employment law matters.

• At least 5 years of experience handling wage-and-hour compliance, employee classification, and handbook review work.

• Strong knowledge of exempt and non-exempt standards and related employment law requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to review and update employee handbooks for legal compliance and practical usability.

• Experience providing concise legal analysis for small business or retail workplace environments.

• Ability to complete a focused consulting assignment efficiently within a one-day project schedule.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clear, actionable recommendations.


Compensation

$83.00-$100.00 Hourly
