The University of Pittsburgh, Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician IV to work with irreplaceable human lung explants from Pitt’s transplant service to generate publication-quality data supporting single-cell/spatial analyses in fibrotic lung disease. Ideal for independent technicians seeing impactful immunology research.
Required: Bachelor’s +3 years lab experience with primary human tissue processing, flow cytometry, immune cell culture, and molecular assays, data analysis experience.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential Functions
• Independently design/execute complex lab experiments; provide experiment design expertise
• Analyze/interpret experimental data; prepare graphs/tables/charts for publication
• Execute molecular (qPCR), protein (westerns), flow cytometry, immunofluorescence assays
• Maintain specimen/chemical inventories, ordering, detailed lab notebooks, biosafety
• Draft manuscript/grant sections; conduct literature searches to support research
• Optimize protocols; troubleshoot chronic experimental issues; train junior staff
• Communicate complex findings/strategies to PI
Physical Effort
Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods at the laboratory bench, use pipettes and manual manipulators for extended times, lift/move equipment up to 25 lbs, and work in a BSL-2 environment requiring PPE.
