Statement of Learning Outcomes for FWS Student Employees

  • The learning outcomes is to foster leadership skills (communication and self-awareness).

  • Become culturally literate (interacting with different cultures)

Function of Position:

  1. Purpose of this position is to help promote, maintain, the PRISM Multicultural Center as a viable center for students, faculty and staff to come to for an array of positive interactions and learning. Also the center is a major extension of the IDEA (Inclusiveness/Diversity/Equity/Accountability Office).
  2. The position will expose students to new areas in the college and we believe by having students work in both areas helps the college financially. The position will give students hands on experiences in many different areas of learning (i.e. cultural exchanges, programming, business and office experience, customer service, and most of all leadership skills.

This position is funded exclusively through Federal Work Study (FWS). Applicants must be approved by the Financial Aid Office for FWS eligibility prior to being considered for employment. If you are unsure of your FWS eligibility, please before applying. Applicants must include their M# in any correspondence with the Financial Aid Office.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Answer and take phone calls
  • Help with programming and set-ups
  • Typing, taking notes, setting up displays
  • Arranging meetings
  • Filing, delivering things to other offices along with copying and dealing with the print shop
  • Typing, telephone and some scheduling
  • Compiling data
  • Mail sorting
  • Helping with displays, set-ups for PRISM events and programs
  • Greet customers and answer questions
  • Filing/ arranging and hanging information in glass cases
  • Cleaning and arranging the center
  • Tracking and ordering inventory for the center (office supplies, food items)

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Monroe Community College
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be in good academic standing
  • Federal Work Study eligibility is required for FWS-funded positions (must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to hire)
  • Must have computer skills, especially (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have some knowledge or have had interaction with other cultures
  • Must have excellent communication and critical thinking skills (able to talk to people tactfully and professionally)
  • Have a record of being on time

Must be in good standing with the college (not on probation or show a history of not showing up in class or failing or withdrawing from classes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
  • Customer service background (a plus but not mandatory)


Additional Information:

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour

Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours/week

Semester Hiring: Fall 2026
