Accounting Assistant

We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to join a private club’s onsite accounting team in Sarasota, Florida. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone with solid bookkeeping experience who enjoys working in a collaborative environment while supporting daily financial operations and month-end reporting. The role works closely with accounting leadership and offers the chance to build broader accounting expertise over time.

Responsibilities:
• Handle day-to-day bookkeeping activities across receivables, cash posting, and general accounting transactions to keep financial records current and accurate.
• Contribute to the month-end close by preparing supporting schedules, reviewing balances, and assisting with the assembly of monthly financial reporting.
• Record incoming payments from multiple sources, including member remittances, checks, online payments, credit cards, and other approved transaction methods.
• Reconcile daily credit card activity and resolve posting discrepancies within the accounting system in a timely manner.
• Support member account administration by preparing statements, tracking outstanding balances, and following up on overdue amounts professionally.
• Maintain spreadsheet-based records for payment plans, transaction activity, and other financial data used for internal tracking and reporting.
• Review submitted invoices, code information as needed, and coordinate processing with the external accounts payable partner.
• Assist with account reconciliations, general ledger updates, and special accounting assignments requested by the Controller.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting support roles.
• Hands-on background with full-cycle bookkeeping through preparation of financial statements.
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable, cash applications, reconciliations, and core accounting practices.
• Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with formulas and organized financial spreadsheets.
• Strong attention to detail with effective problem-solving and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage responsibilities independently within a small onsite accounting team.
• Experience with Jonas Club Software is preferred but not required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications in an accounting environment.

Compensation

$23.75-$27.50 Hourly
