Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a long-term contract opportunity based in New York, New York. This position will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing tax-related documentation, and assisting with day-to-day ledger activity. The ideal candidate brings strong corporate tax knowledge, sound accounting judgment, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting system.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Support the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns in accordance with applicable requirements and deadlines.
• Manage sales tax reporting activities, including reviewing data for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with month-end and periodic close processes by organizing schedules and validating account balances.
• Analyze financial information and provide accounting support to help maintain compliance with internal standards.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather documentation and clarify accounting or tax-related items.
• Help improve the accuracy of accounting records by monitoring routine transactions and identifying issues promptly.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.
• Practical knowledge of corporate tax, including support for corporate tax return preparation.
• Hands-on experience with sales tax processes and related filings.
• Strong ability to prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
• Solid understanding of core accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet-based financial analysis.

Compensation

$30.00-$32.00 Hourly
