Staff Accountant
Responsibilities:
• Oversee day-to-day accounting activity related to ceded reinsurance, including billing support, cash application, payment handling, and remittance processing.
• Prepare and reconcile transaction-level reports to ensure financial data is accurate across U.S. and international ceded operations.
• Review spreadsheets and supporting work completed by external partners, confirming completeness, consistency, and adherence to established controls.
• Contribute to annual Schedule F reporting for six U.S. insurance entities by gathering, organizing, and validating required accounting information.
• Coordinate with internal and global teams to support ceded operations across multiple business units and international markets while meeting critical reporting deadlines.
• Investigate discrepancies in accounting records and resolve reconciliation issues by working with relevant stakeholders and source documentation.
• Maintain strong operational controls over transactional accounting processes to support compliance and reporting integrity.
• Use advanced Excel functions to analyze large data sets, identify variances, and improve the reliability of recurring accounting deliverables.
Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in insurance, reinsurance, or another highly transactional financial environment.• Strong Excel skills are required, with the ability to work accurately in spreadsheets and interpret detailed financial data.
• Experience performing reconciliations, reviewing transaction activity, and supporting financial reporting processes.
• Familiarity with journal entries and general ledger concepts, even if the role is primarily operational in focus.
• Ability to identify errors, follow established procedures, and maintain a high level of accuracy in repetitive accounting tasks.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with offshore and cross-functional teams.
• Exposure to corporate tax, sales tax, or corporate tax return support is a plus.
• Experience working with ceded reinsurance reporting or transaction systems is preferred.
