Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our team in Portland, Maine for a Contract assignment. This role will support core accounting operations with a strong focus on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely close activities, and ensuring balance sheet integrity. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach to general ledger management, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation while working effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Lead month-end close tasks to help ensure financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation and appropriate account analysis.
• Maintain the general ledger by reviewing transactions, resolving discrepancies, and preserving data accuracy.
• Perform account reconciliations for balance sheet and other key accounts, researching and correcting variances as needed.
• Complete bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding items to ensure cash activity is properly recorded.
• Assist with financial reporting by organizing accounting data and validating supporting schedules.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather information, clarify accounting activity, and support day-to-day finance operations.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of accounting experience in a senior-level or closely related role.
• Demonstrated expertise in month-end close processes, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation.
• Strong background in account reconciliation and bank reconciliation with close attention to detail.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and comfort working within accounting systems to manage financial data.
• Solid understanding of core accounting principles and standard financial controls.
• Ability to analyze discrepancies, prioritize deadlines, and work independently in a contract position.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Compensation

$31.66-$40.00 Hourly
