Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a contract to hire position based in West Orange, New Jersey. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in general ledger activity, journal entry preparation, and corporate tax processes. The successful candidate will help maintain accurate financial records, support reporting deadlines, and contribute to compliance across key accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and on schedule.

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain reliable financial data.

• Support the preparation of corporate tax filings and assist with related documentation and schedules.

• Manage sales tax activities, including reviewing transactions, preparing reports, and helping ensure timely submissions.

• Assist with month-end and period-end close tasks to keep accounting deliverables on track.

• Review financial records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal accounting standards.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information needed for reporting, tax support, and account analysis.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in accounting or a closely related finance role.
• Hands-on experience with journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax principles, including support for corporate tax returns.
• Experience handling or assisting with sales tax reporting and compliance tasks.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve account discrepancies.
• Proficiency in standard accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reporting.
• Ability to manage deadlines effectively in a contract position environment.

Compensation

$23.75-$27.50 Hourly
