Patient Account Representative

Robert Half is seeking a Patient Account Representative to work onsite in Fishers, IN 2 days per week. The other 3 days can be worked from home.

The Patient Account Representative serves as the primary point of contact for patients regarding their medical accounts and financial responsibilities. This role is a high-volume call center position focused on providing excellent customer service while assisting patients with billing inquiries, payment options, and financial assistance. Representatives handle a combination of inbound and outbound calls to resolve account balances, educate patients on their financial obligations, and ensure a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a high volume of inbound and outbound patient calls (approximately 50–60 calls per day).
• Contact patients regarding outstanding balances, insurance processing, and account status.
• Explain medical bills, insurance payments, and patient financial responsibility in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Assist patients in establishing payment plans and discussing budgeting options to resolve account balances.
• Process and post patient payments accurately, including credit card payments received over the phone.
• Help self-pay patients understand and apply for available financial assistance programs.
• Follow up with patients and their families regarding unpaid balances, missing information, or next steps in the billing process.
• Work returned mail by researching and updating patient demographic information to maintain accurate records.
• Answer patient questions related to billing, insurance, and payment options while providing exceptional customer service.
• Document all patient interactions accurately within the organization's electronic systems.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a healthcare customer service, patient accounts, medical billing, collections required
• Call center environment highly preferred
• Strong verbal communication and active listening skills
• Ability to explain financial information in an easy-to-understand and empathetic manner
• Experience handling high call volumes while maintaining professionalism and accuracy
• Basic computer proficiency and experience documenting interactions in electronic systems
