Cost Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support core accounting operations and help monitor operational costs for my client in Shreveport. This role will partner with operations and finance teams to evaluate cost structures, maintain product costing, analyze variances, and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and analyze standard costs, bill of materials, and inventory valuation.
- Prepare and review monthly cost accounting reports, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Monitor inventory transactions and ensure accurate recording of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Analyze manufacturing and operational cost variances, including labor, material, and overhead costs.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Conduct inventory cycle counts and physical inventory audits, investigating discrepancies as needed.
- Prepare cost analyses and profitability reports to support management decision-making.
- Develop and maintain costing models for products, projects, or services.
- Partner with operations, purchasing, and production teams to improve cost controls and reporting accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or at least 5 years of closely related accounting experience in place of a degree.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in finance and accounting roles.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and financial statement support.
• Experience with tax-related reporting, including sales tax and corporate tax support activities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Teams, along with the ability to learn other business systems.
• Strong numerical aptitude with the ability to perform detailed calculations, review financial data, and identify discrepancies.
• Ability to remain organized in a desk-based office setting and work additional hours when needed during close periods or audits.
