Staff Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support tax and compliance activities for a Long-term Contract position based in Concord, North Carolina. This role focuses on maintaining accurate tax documentation, assisting with indirect tax processes, and helping ensure account records are current and properly supported. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across multiple systems, partnering with internal teams, and contributing to process documentation and ongoing operational improvements. Sales and use tax experience a must.
Responsibilities:
• Access state and vendor websites on a recurring basis to retrieve tax notices, official letters, and related correspondence for review and filing.
• Oversee exemption certificate records and keep documentation complete, current, and readily accessible.
• Examine customer accounts to confirm tax exemption status is correctly applied before processing credit memo activity.
• Contribute to sales and use tax compliance efforts by helping address outstanding credit memo items connected to tax matters.
• Investigate invoice payment discrepancies, including short-paid balances, and work toward timely resolution.
• Provide support for business registration, Secretary of State submissions, and license-related compliance filings.
• Create, revise, and organize training materials, reference guides, and procedural documentation for departmental use.
• Coordinate with internal teams to improve tax data accuracy, maintain orderly electronic files in SharePoint and other systems, and assist with month-end tasks, cleanup efforts, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
• Experience supporting corporate tax or sales and use tax activities in an accounting or finance environment.• Working knowledge of exemption certificate administration and tax-related customer account review.
• Familiarity with credit memo processing, invoice research, and resolution of payment discrepancies.
• Understanding of general ledger activity and preparation of journal entries.
• Ability to manage records accurately across portals, shared document repositories, and internal systems.
• Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail and the ability to handle recurring compliance deadlines.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on tax-related matters.
Compensation
