ERP Project Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced accounting transformation professional to lead a high-impact Record-to-Report (R2R) stabilization initiative following a large-scale ERP implementation. This contract position will focus on evaluating accounting processes, improving close procedures, documenting key activities, strengthening controls, and helping the organization transition from a reactive operating environment to a sustainable and efficient finance function.
This role is ideal for an individual who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with expertise in process improvement, ERP-enabled transformations, financial close optimization, and operational documentation. The selected consultant will work closely with accounting leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to identify inefficiencies, eliminate unnecessary activities, and establish best-practice procedures across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a comprehensive review of Record-to-Report processes across multiple accounting functions.
- Assess recurring journal entries, reconciliations, close activities, and supporting workpapers for necessity, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Document current-state accounting processes, key controls, and procedural workflows.
- Develop standardized process documentation, desktop procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate duplicate activities, manual workarounds, and non-value-added tasks.
- Evaluate how ERP functionality can be better leveraged to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Partner with accounting leadership to redesign and standardize close processes.
- Review account reconciliation practices and recommend improvements to support accuracy and timeliness.
- Assess control environments and assist with strengthening SOX compliance and documentation.
- Support business continuity initiatives by reducing key-person dependency through process documentation and cross-training.
- Facilitate discussions with accounting teams to understand pain points and identify practical solutions.
- Develop recommendations to improve close timelines, reporting quality, and organizational effectiveness.
- Assist with change management and adoption of new processes and procedures.
- Provide leadership during process stabilization efforts and future rollout readiness activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting, finance transformation, controllership, internal audit, or process improvement experience.
- Strong understanding of Record-to-Report processes, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience leading or supporting large ERP transformation, post-implementation stabilization, or process optimization initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to document complex accounting processes and create sustainable operating procedures.
- Experience evaluating and improving internal controls and SOX compliance environments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred.
- Experience within large public company environments.
- SAP S/4HANA experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with BlackLine or similar account reconciliation platforms.
- Background in shared services, global accounting operations, controllership, or financial transformation initiatives.
- Experience helping organizations reduce close cycle timelines and improve accounting efficiency.
- Consulting, advisory, or project-based leadership experience.
